Below are this month’s nominations:
Colton Jonjak-Plahn / Lyons High School / Track and Field
Colton is a great leader and a great athlete. He is ranked 2nd in the 2A state ranking in the 400 and 800, part of the state leading 3200 relay, and qualified for state in the High Jump. He will be attending Stanford University next year to study Aerospace Engineering. Colton has been an all-state and all-conference competitor all 4 years of high school in cross country and track, and is also a varsity basketball player. He’s student-body president, part of NHS, and a member of the school yearbook.
Lexi Ekern / Skyline High School / Golf
Lexi has served as a leader on the golf team since she joined. She has taught her teammates how to overcame bad holes and develop a remarkable mental game.
Grant Rulon / Longmont High School / Baseball
Grant Rulon has been totally invested in his High School experience at Longmont High School. First and foremost, Grant has attained a great GPA at Longmont High (over a 4.3 GPA). Grant has been an All State Academic award winner while playing Varsity Football, Varsity Basketball, and Varsity Baseball. He has been a member of the Longmont High Honor Society. Grant is a Semi-finalist for a Boettcher Scholarship. Grant is currently a huge reason for our Varsity baseball team success. He is a starter on our team, a starter in our outfield, and hits second in the line up as one of our leading hitters. Last but most important, Grant Rulon is one of the very best team mates that have ever gone through the halls at Longmont High. Grant always puts his team’s goals above his own personal goals and accolades. Grant is a tremendous human being who is so deserving for the Longmont Ford award. Starter on the football team, key reserve for our state runner up basketball team, starter on the baseball team.
Ryan Chacon / Frederick High School / Track and Field
Ryan has had a great month thus far in our first week of May. At the league Meet Ryan competed in four events and was all conference in three of them, as he set new school records in the three events as well. This is an amazing feet, but it is even more impressive when you take in to account that Ryan is only a sophomore. The most impressive result from the Tri-Valley Conference meet was the 4x 400m team dropping almost 4 seconds in the events and beating Mead at the Championship at the finish Line. When Ryan took the baton, he was 20meters behind, and still 10 plus behind as he came off the final corner. Ryans finish was class sick as he over took the number 4 runner from Mead in the last meter or two. In doing so our 4 x 400 team won the conference championship, and broke the Tri-Valley Meet record, he did this after winning the 400m and placing second in the 200m earlier in the day. This sophomore we like to call the “”flying Stick”” has continued to improve almost all of his times in the meets the last four weeks and is looking forward to running at state in multiple events next week. The previous weekend Ryan place 6th in the 100, 2nd in the 400m and Won the 200m at the Weld County Championships in Greeley.” New School Record in the 200m, 400m and finally in the 4×400.
Nathan Wanniger / Twin Peaks Charter Academy / Track
Qualified for state track meet in the triple jump, and came with 3/4 of inch of setting a new league record at our league meet. He is our sole state representative for our school this year.
